Dear Yuletide Author,
You can find my bookmarks on AO3 here to get a taste of what I like.
General Stuff I Like:
1) I am a HUGE crossover fan. I started reading fanfic about 20 years ago and some of my earliest fanfic explorations were on the Gossamer Archive for The X-Files, where I basically read EVERYTHING in the crossover section. And that was a lot. Even if I had no clue about what the other fandoms were.
2) The trope that will make me read ANY story, no matter if it is poorly written or I don't even know the fandom, is the Time Loop. I'm also a ZOMG!HUGE fan of the Set Right What Once Went Wrong trope, a la Day Break, Quantum Leap, Early Edition, Seven Days, etc. Time travel stories where someone wakes up young again and has a chance to relive their life to fix [insert tragedy here] are like my fanfic kryptonite.
3) I adore Outsider POV that makes completely plausible theories over what is going on but the reader knows they're wrong and/or the Insider POV where the main character is keeping tons of secrets from everyone else in the story, especially identity-related secrets.
4) I'll read any pairing, although I do tend to gravitate towards slash. I also adore Gen fic.
General Stuff I Don't Like:
I'm hard to squick. I'm not a big fan of kidfic, but I'll read it and enjoy it if it's written well. Torture porn is a big turn-off, as is infantalization. My biggest turn-off in a fic is first person/present tense writing. I don't really know why, but I just can't stand reading it. I've read amazing summaries for fanfics or synopses for novels that I'm really excited about reading and I open the book and see it's in first person/present tense and I'll put it right back down.
Black Books
So, like, I used to work in a bookstore and now I'm a rare book appraiser, I know me my books. But back in the day I loved this show because Bernard said everything I wanted to say to some customers. Gimme something awesome about the wacky hijinks these three get up to tracking down a book thief or a rare book or maybe Manny's Dave's Syndrome is acting up or perhaps the things that live in the corners of the bookcases are gathering for an attack. Something funny or odd or just plain weird or maybe even scary. Hit me with a nostalgia bomb. :)
Panthers
Jaromír Jágr is absolutely one of my favs (I own a total of 3 jerseys, and the first one I ever got was his, but, um, not with the Panthers...). I would love a story where he is the main focus. Oh, to be sure, I love the other Panthers, too, and you can totally include them, but Jarda is love. He is like magic. Actually, I'd love a story about him actually being magic (or in a universe where there is magical realism). Or where he is a Wise Mentor (tm) to all the young players (although Bobby Lu and Thorty totally don't take his shit, what), although he's really just trolling them. You can do a romantic story with him (m/f or m/m, I care not, hell, I'll take f/f if you want to do a genderswap), or a throwback story with memories of his time as Mario Jr or something with the Czechia national team or the KHL, or a something about his gambling and womanizing, or something with the Travelling Jágrs, or whatever.
Glitch
Please flesh out the story of Esquibeth of Inari. Where was she from? Why was SHE the one that dared to go find Grendaline? How did she bring back the Eleveness of Everything? And where was the Esquibeth of OUR time? I miss Glitch so much, I wish the Giants had never awoken...
Take That
I love this band, they're so cheesy and awesome. I particularly like the cinematic music video for Kidz and would greatly enjoy a fleshed-out-with-actual-plot story of what all is going on there as the Take That spaceship descends on Bulgaria. What did those pictures at the end as they were lifting off mean? Or you can go another direction. Progress is my favorite album and I also really like The Flood and SOS. Or you can just write about the band! The break up angst, the early stuff, the controversies, the talent gaps, etc. Don't forget Gary, too!
Capitols
I'm not too proud to ask for smut, OK? Plotty, slashy smut would be my preference, but I'll take anything. Also, Ovechkin's secret angst under all that smiling. Feel free to throw in any character from any team, I'm not fussed as long as Ovi is there, he doesn't even have to be the main focus if you don't want him to be.
The Pretender
The Pretender is a TV show that was absolutely MADE for crossovers. I'd love an episode-style plotty story with some sort of mystery element for Jarod to uncover and if it is a crossover with something, so much the better. I adore crossovers and I really like the secret identity trope where one character knows much more than everyone else around them, which made The Pretender like candy to me.
